The most eco-friendly way to road trip is...on a bike.
And bicycles are the transportation of choice for the Vogel family from Boise, Idaho who intend to spend the next two and half years cycling from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to Ushuaia, Argentina.
John, Nancy and 10-year old twins, Davy and Daryl left home on June 8, 2008 on two single bikes and one tandem.
According to the family's website, the twins will be awarded the title of "Youngest Person to Cycle the Pan-American Highway" by the Guinness Book of Worlds Records if the family completes their journey.
The Vogels aren't new to this type of travel. In 2007, the family completed a 12-month, 9,300-mile bike trek around the USA and Mexico.
In order to make their trip more meaningful, the family will use Reach the World's interactive website and live Internet chats to share their trip with under-privileged students in New York City.
Reach the World is an educational non-profit organization with the mission of linking students in under-funded schools to online, global expeditions.
